- Cook ½ cup of toor dal (pigeon peas) with turmeric until soft.
- Add chopped vegetables (drumstick, brinjal, carrot, etc.) and boil with tamarind extract.
- Add 1.5 to 2 tablespoons of Murugan Idli Sambar Podi and simmer for 10–15 minutes.
- Finish with a traditional tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves, dry red chillies, and hing (asafoetida).
- For richer taste, fry the sambar powder in a teaspoon of ghee or oil before adding.
